90 DEGREES FROM EARTH SCHOLARSHIP
Behind Nandini's welcoming smile and sharp sense of humor lies the determination that has enabled her to keep moving forward as difficulties arose around her. She was keen on pursing her flair for the sciences through her pre-university degree and even gained admission into Presidency College, one of Bangalore's premier instituions, on her own merit. The situation at home however became a hurdle in her path to becoming an engineer. Nandini's father passed away, and her mother who works as a helper in a parlor could not affoard to support both her and her sister's college education.
We saw that with a little support Nandini could become a role model for other aspiring woman engineers, so we put all our weight behind her!
Nandini finished her PU degree in science at Presidency College, and is now pursuing a degree in electrical and computer engineering at Brindavan College Bangalore.
A thinker amongst followers, the late Wing Commander Rajesh Nair was a lifelong student. From overcoming his own hurdles (of smoking and drinking) to studying the human psyche, he placed a great deal of importance on self improvement. He was an experimenter, orator, guide and friend; brimming with a curiosity rarely seen in the stereotypical “grown up”. He desired the truth and possessed an astonishing willpower to achieve it. He would often say - “ The best time to plant a tree was 40 years ago. The second best time is right now”; summing up his belief in seizing every moment of every day, and living each moment fully.
Three years since his untimely passing, his son Rajat set up this scholarship to honor the legacy of a life so fully lived that it serves as a beacon to many.
